Kika Nazareth and the Portuguese Masterplan – Towards Euro 2029 on Home Soil

Portugal has officially submitted its bid to host the UEFA Women’s Euro 2029. And those who pay attention can see that this is more than a proposal with stadiums and transport plans. This is a vision. A roadmap. A long-term project with a star at its core: Kika Nazareth.

At just 22, the playmaker who first dazzled with Benfica has become the face of Portuguese women’s football. Her move to FC Barcelona, her goals at the World Cup, and the silverware collected with Benfica all point to the same thing: Kika is the female Ronaldo – full of flair, creativity, and leadership.

If Portugal gets the tournament, she’ll be 26 by then – right in her prime. The perfect intersection of youthful fire and mature brilliance. By then, she may well be not only Portugal’s leader, but one of Europe’s most iconic footballers.

Just like Spain hosted the men’s World Cup in 1982 and lifted the women’s World Cup in 2023 with a golden generation, Portugal is now setting the stage. Youth academies at clubs like Benfica and Sporting are growing, the national team is gaining experience, and a core of talented players is quietly being forged.

Tonight’s game against the Red Flames offers a preview of that future. Even if Kika is sidelined due to injury, her presence still looms large. And if all goes to plan, her star will shine brightest in 2029 – over the Estádio da Luz.

One thing is clear: on the Iberian Peninsula, there is a plan. Spain reigns. Portugal is coming.
